Accelerated Literacy Practitioners' Association Australia

Chapter in new PETAA publication

ALPAA members who are also members of the Primary English Teachers' Association of Australia (PETAA) will be interested to see a chapter written by three ALPAA members in their latest publication Talking the Talk edited by Pauline Jones, Alyson Simpson and Anne Thwaite. The chapter is called Carrying the conversation in our heads: dialogue in a remote Aboriginal setting and was written by Helen Harper, Matt Lotherington and Bronwyn Parkin. We wanted to show how what appears to be a monologue by the teacher at the beginning of a maths topic is actually the kernel of a planned conversation with students. Over a number of lessons, as meaning is shared, students begin to take over roles in the conversation.
